We've been signed up to the smart tech revolution for a while now, offering both Ring Video 2 Doorbells and Nest Learning Thermostats in all of our homes* as standard – because we know how much of a positive impact smart tech can have on the lives of our homeowners.
While smart tech isn't an essential component in making your house a home, we think that smart devices can bring a little more efficiency and sustainability to your life, help save you money on utility bills, and make your home feel safer.
So we've put together some of our favourite gadgets that will help get your home ready for the future.
Ring Video 2 Doorbell
Devices like the Ring Video 2 Doorbell let you know who's outside of your door, so you'll never miss a thing. Whether it's the postman with a parcel too big for your post-box, or a stranger causing mischief, a Video Doorbell lets you instantly see what's going on at your property even if you are away from home. The ability to talk through the doorbell also gives you the chance to answer your door remotely – maybe advising where you'd like packages left or telling intruders to back away!
Paired with a monthly or annual subscription plan called Ring Protect, the Ring Video 2 Doorbell offers cloud storage for all the videos it records., so you can watch and download content after any incident occurs.
Ring Stick up Cam
If you're looking to add even more security features to your St. Modwen Home, it's worth checking out Ring's portfolio of complementary devices. One of our favourites has to be the all-new Stick Up Cam. Available in a wired or battery-powered version, the Stick Up Cam is a portable security camera that can be used inside or outside. With a flexible fixing system, the Stick Up Cam can be placed on a table top or secured to a wall. Just like the doorbell it offers a wireless camera system, that can be viewed live, or with the Ring Protect Plan, have all its footage saved in the cloud. Ring Alarm Security System
The Ring alarm system easily expands to fit your needs. Simply plug in the base station, connect the components, set up your account in the Ring app and you're ready to control your Ring alarm with the keypad or your phone via the app. Once your all set, you'll be able to keep an eye on your home from afar, and paired with some Stick Up Cams or a Doorbell, your homes security will only ever be a few taps away.
Nest Learning Thermostat
A must-have for any smart home, the smart thermostat gives you control of your heating in the palm of your hand. We offer the Nest in all of our homes, so it’s our go-to brand when people ask us which device is best. Not only can you make sure your home is warm for when you arrive home by tapping on the app, but your thermostat will also learn from your behaviours, implementing a heating programme that will best suit the comings and goings of your life. Smart heating is all about sustainability, so not only will your smart thermostat do its best to reduce your bills, but you can also feel good in the knowledge you're doing your best for the environment.
Protecting yourself, your co-habitants and your possessions is one of the most important aspects of homeownership. As well as theft and intrusion, fire and carbon monoxide are further threats that can be effectively minimised with smart technology.
The Nest Protect, which lives in the same family as the Nest Learning Thermostat, is a fantastic piece of kit that not only detects smoke, changes in temperature but also monitors carbon monoxide levels. Like the Nest Thermostat, the detectors can be managed remotely with an app, and have some amazing audio features to help you in the event of an emergency. Our favourite feature is the 'halo' light – which turns the detectors into night lights, helping guide you safely if a room is filled with smoke or simply during the night when you need to get the loo!
Imagine being able to turn off all your lights with one click. Easy to install, and with a range of options for almost any light in your home, smart you can easily change the atmosphere of any room. Whether you want to add colour to your interior, set the right light for functional tasks, throw an outdoor party or create a cosy mood for dinner, you can easily personalise your light and ambience.
Our favourites are the Phillips Hue lights, which were one of the first on the market. While a little pricey, smart lighting will help you reduce your bills by using smart programming to light your home and will give you peace of mind when you are out and about.
While there’s numerous devices on the market, our favourite has a helper called Alexa. From online retailer Amazon, the Echo is a fab piece of kit that integrates well with most of the other smart tech on this list. With a few simple taps, you’ll be able to control your other smart devices with your voice, all handled by the very capable Alexa.
What’s crazy about the Echo is just how intelligent Alexa has come in such a short period of time. From telling jokes, to answering almost any question imaginable, Alexa really could be the smartest of the smart devices!
