Green light for prime new homes site in Worcester

26 July 2016

St. Modwen has received the go-ahead for 120 new houses on the former Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) site, located off Whittington Road in Worcester.

The outline plans were approved earlier today by Worcestershire City Council’s Planning Committee for 120 new houses, 36 of which will be affordable, plus 150,000 sq ft of offices, in line with the South Worcestershire Development Plan.

The UK’s leading regeneration specialist completed its purchase of the prominent 19 acre site earlier this year.

Located in a popular residential area, two miles from Worcester City Centre, the site is within easy reach of the city’s shops and restaurants. Worcester Foregate Street and Shrub Hill railway stations, which provide regular train services to Birmingham, Bristol and London are also nearby, whilst Junction 7 of the M5 is just a short drive away.

Jonathan Green, senior development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “Since acquiring the site in March, we have worked closely with Worcester City Council to see the planning application obtain consent. The site will now be developed by our housebuilding business, St. Modwen Homes.”

Dave Smith, Managing Director at St. Modwen Homes, said: “Worcester has become increasingly popular with purchasers and it won’t be long before we’re completely sold out in the current phase at Gregorys Bank.

“Building on this success, we’re excited to be going forward with plans for our second site in Worcester, allowing us to meet the growing demand with a range of house types – all with the St. Modwen Homes’ difference.”

The new homes will be designed with the award-winning housebuilder’s philosophy of light and height in mind which means higher than average ceilings and large windows in every room, and bright and open spaces throughout. As with all St. Modwen Homes developments, each property will also be finished to a high specification, including designer kitchens and bathrooms, as well as luxurious finishes to fixtures and fittings.
