Semi-professional team, Rocester Football Club, has launched a new Sunday League football team, aimed at encouraging the growth of local talent.
Adults of all ages (16 and older) are invited to join the squad of 20 and attend the initial training sessions in April and May ahead of the first official match in July. The team will play other local football clubs as part of the Uttoxeter League, with home matches and training taking place at Hillsfield football ground in Rocester.
By setting up the new team, Rocester FC intends to unearth local talent and support youth players as they come of age. Moving forwards, management from Rocester FC’s Saturday squads will attend the Sunday League games to assess players they feel could add something to the team’s ranks.
The new Sunday League team has already attracted backing from high profile businesses including St. Modwen Homes – the housebuilder behind the new homes at Bramshall Meadows in Uttoxeter – which has been revealed as the headline sponsor, providing new home and away kits for the squad for the next three years. Additionally, the club’s polo shirts have been sponsored by Bagshaws Agricultural, based on Smithfield Road and Derby Road in Uttoxeter.
Nick Harris, Manager of Rocester Sunday League and Committee Member of Rocester FC, said: “Providing football teams is essential to encouraging local talent to flourish. Over the past few years we’ve become conscious that we need to see more players from the local area actually playing for Rocester FC. This is something that we’re hoping to combat with this new team, through local representation and support of our wide range of youth teams.
“This will be a chance for aspiring footballers – whether they’ve played before or not – to join a squad where they can play on a semi-professional pitch and have access to semi-professional facilities. It’s a great opportunity and one that wouldn’t be possible without the generous sponsorship of St. Modwen Homes and Bagshaws.
“You never know, it might only take a few seasons of hard work before we’re pitching our skills against local rivals, Uttoxeter Town.”
Dave Smith, Managing Director at St. Modwen Homes, said: “For us, supporting local communities is crucial when delivering new housing developments. This new Sunday League team will give many people – including our new homeowners – the chance to play weekly matches, encouraging more people to take-up and continue with the popular sport. It’s great to be part of something that will have such a lasting impact locally.”
There is currently a range of three, four and five bedroom houses available to purchase at Bramshall Meadows, with prices starting from £218,500 for a three bedroom property. The Marketing Suite and Showhomes are located off Bramshall Road, Bramshall, Uttoxeter, ST14 7PG.
