Home-hunters can spend more on furnishing and decorating their new apartment thanks to a scheme designed by St. Modwen Homes to make moving more affordable.
The housebuilder has offered to pay the service charge for the first year for people who purchase one of the new apartments at Locking Parklands; an award-winning development which is breathing new life into the former RAF Locking site near Weston-super-Mare.
The scheme has been designed primarily to help first time buyers move onto the property ladder by allowing them to save extra money which can help pay for other costs associated with moving to a new home such as furnishings, legal costs and decorating.
Catherine Jarrett, Head of Sales South at St. Modwen Homes, said: “Whether you own a home already or are purchasing for the first time, the costs of moving can quickly mount up, so we thought it would be handy to give people who purchase an apartment at Locking Parklands one less thing to worry about by paying their service charge for the first year.

The service charge is a fee which covers repairs and upkeep of shared areas outside and within an apartment building, such as communal areas and the roof.
The development has been incredibly popular with first time buyers ever since the first homes were launched. An impressive 90 per cent of purchasers at Locking Parklands have been first time buyers, with 86 per cent of these using the government-backed Help to Buy scheme to move onto the property ladder.
The scheme enables buyers to secure a new home with a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage. The remaining 20 per cent is provided in the form of an equity loan from the government, which is interest free for the first five years of home ownership.
The new homes at Locking Parklands are surrounded by mature trees, large areas of open space and woodland. Plans for the wider development include a new community centre which has already been delivered and opened to the public, new retail spaces, a library and a new school.
St. Modwen Homes is rated as a five star housebuilder by the Home Builders’ Federation, with over 90 per cent of its customers stating they would recommend the housebuilder to a friend in the 2017 National New Homes Survey. A five star rating is the highest rating which can be awarded.
Locking Parklands has been shortlisted for the Best Large Development category in the prestigious First Time Buyer Awards.
