Locking Parklands wins top national award

A local housing development, located just 10 miles from Weston-super-Mare, has been celebrated at a national award ceremony for its commitment to providing much-needed homes for first time buyers.

Locking Parklands, in Locking, fought off stiff competition from developments across the UK, winning the silver accolade in the Best Starter Home Scheme category at this year’s What House Awards; often referred to as the Oscars of the housebuilding industry.

The development was recognised for its success in continually attracting a high number of first time buyers. Bucking the national trend, 90% of the homes at Locking Parklands have been sold to people buying their first property, with 86% of these purchasers using the government’s Help to Buy scheme whereby people only need a deposit of 5%.

Dave Smith, Managing Director at St. Modwen Homes, said: “Our popularity amongst first time buyers continues to go from strength to strength, particularly at Locking Parklands where over 70% of our purchasers are aged between 26 and 35.

“Winning this What House Award is credit to all the design, sales and site team who have worked hard to ensure we provide an inviting, friendly and helpful experience for first time buyers. Not only do we offer contemporary, design-led homes that are within the budget of first time purchasers, but we also provide free access to independent mortgage advisers, along with the expertise of our sales team, helping to navigate new homeowners through the whole home-buying process. We have a real passion for helping people get onto the property ladder and we’re over the moon for this to have been recognised at Locking Parklands.”

St. Modwen Homes was also celebrated for its efforts in ensuring first time buyers don’t have to compromise on design or quality when buying at Locking Parklands. Testament to this, more than 80% of purchasers at the development stated that they chose their new home based on the modern house designs.

St. Modwen Homes currently has a range of starter homes available at Locking Parklands including the two bedroom Beech property and the detached three bedroom Mulberry house, along with a range of two bedroom apartments. Prices for the new homes start from £229,995 for a two bedroom terraced house and £182,995 for an apartment and all homes include designer kitchens, contemporary bathrooms and luxurious finishes as standard.

Proving that first time buyers remain a constant focus for the housebuilder, St. Modwen Homes also won gold in the same category at last year’s What House Awards for its Glan Llyn development in Newport, South Wales.

Now in their 36th year, the What House Awards are regarded as the most prestigious new homes awards, with the categories judged by leading figures and professionals in the industry.
