Work starts on new homes at Victoria Ground

19 January 2018

The former Victoria Ground in Stoke-on-Trent is entering a new chapter following the start of construction at the historic site.

St. Modwen Homes is set to deliver 200 new homes at the development, as well as a park and a school sports field on what was previously the home ground of Stoke City football club. The award-winning housebuilder has received planning for the first 130 homes.

With construction now underway, it is expected that the new homes will be launched for sale in March, with the first homeowners likely to move in during the spring.

Dave Smith, Managing Director at St. Modwen Homes, said: “This initial stage of construction is the enabling works for the site which lets us prepare the ground ready for the new homes. It’s likely that this work will take us around 10 weeks at which point people will start to see foundations going in the ground.

“We’re very excited to be part of the future of Victoria Ground. This is an important site for many local people and it’s our aim to help bring life back to this previously much-loved area of the city.”

St. Modwen Homes renamed the Victoria Ground site Victoria Park following a public competition last year. The competition was won by April Durnin from Bentilee.

The first homes to be built at Victoria Park will include a range of two, three and four bedroom houses. All the properties will have contemporary designs with a range of external elevations and internal layouts.

The new homes at Victoria Park will be St. Modwen Homes’ second housing development in Stoke-on-Trent, following the success of Trentham Manor which was named the best regeneration project in the UK at the national Housebuilder Awards in November 2017. Impressively, 100% of new homeowners at Trentham Manor stated they would recommend St. Modwen Homes to a friend.

Victoria Ground was the home ground of Stoke City football club between 1878 and 1997. The team now play at bet365 Stadium which was delivered by St. Modwen in 1997.

A five star housebuilder, St. Modwen Homes is the housebuilding business of national developer, St. Modwen. The housebuilder has developed a reputation for building design-led, high quality homes and has won multiple awards for its designs, customer care and commitment to helping first time buyers.
