To help spread the festive spirit in the local community, St. Modwen Homes has sponsored the Birmingham Irish Association’s Christmas grotto with a £500 donation.
Father Christmas and his elves welcomed people of all ages to the Christmas grotto on 18th and 19th December and gave each child a special gift before his trip around the world. For the adults, hot drinks, mince pies, festive treats and hot food were provided.
Commenting on the support received from St. Modwen Homes, Trudy McGroarty, Dementia Care Support Manager for the Birmingham Irish Association, said: “The donation we have received from St. Modwen Homes means so much to us, as we are a charity that relies heavily on the support we receive from our local community. The Christmas grotto has brought a lot of joy to so many people who might not have gotten the opportunity to experience the magic of Christmas otherwise, and this would not have been possible without the generous donation from St. Modwen Homes.
“‘In 2017, we opened our doors on Christmas day and fed 200 homeless people. We also provided them all with sleeping bags and warm clothing that was kindly donated by the good people of the city of Birmingham. This year, our aim was to invite children and their families that are living in poverty to give them the opportunity to meet Father Christmas. We also invited our clients suffering from dementia and their families, people with mental health and learning difficulties as well as the homeless and all the local schools.”
Dave Smith, Managing Director at St. Modwen Homes, said: “We are so proud to see how a donation like this really makes a difference to people’s lives. Christmas is a time to spend with family and friends and to be able to help those who might not have the opportunity to do that is something we are really proud of.
”At St. Modwen Homes we believe in changing places and creating better futures, and this is just one of the many ways we try to make an impact in the places where we build our new homes. On behalf of St. Modwen Homes, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a very happy new year.”
The Birmingham Irish Association is the Midland’s leading charity offering welfare and cultural services to thousands of people from the Irish community in Birmingham.
