Leicestershire

Leicestershire is a county in the East Midlands centred around the city of Leicester and the towns of Loughborough and Market Harborough. The landscape features the Charnwood Forest and the National Forest, an ambitious environmental project that has seen millions of trees planted across the north-west of the county over the last 30 years.

The county provides a wide range of cultural and natural attractions. Residents can visit Bradgate Park, an 800-acre deer park that was the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, or explore the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, the site of the final battle of the Wars of the Roses. Leicester city centre is home to the King Richard III Visitor Centre, built at the site where the monarch's remains were discovered beneath a car park in 2012.

Shopping and leisure are focused on the Highcross and Haymarket centres in Leicester, as well as the Fosse Park retail hub on the outskirts of the city. For dining, the county is famous for its local produce, including Stilton cheese and Melton Mowbray pork pies, both of which hold protected status. The market towns of Lutterworth and Ashby-de-la-Zouch offer a selection of independent cafes and traditional pubs.

Leicestershire’s position in the centre of the UK makes it a major hub for transport. The M1 motorway and the A46 provide fast connections to Nottingham, Sheffield and the North, while the M69 links the county to Coventry and the West Midlands. Rail services from Leicester reach London St Pancras in just over an hour, with regular trains also serving Birmingham and Cambridge. East Midlands Airport is located in the north of the county, offering international flights to over 60 destinations.

The area is served by several high-performing schools. Brocks Hill Primary School in Oadby and Kibworth Church of England Primary both hold ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted ratings. For secondary education, Rushey Mead Academy and Soar Valley College are both rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, while Beauchamp College and De Lisle College in Loughborough maintain ‘Good’ ratings.
