Newcastle upon Tyne

Newcastle upon Tyne is an iconic city in the North East of England. With bustling shopping streets and some of the country’s best live music and theatre venues, it’s no wonder the city is becoming a popular destination for young families and professionals alike.

Newcastle wears its industrial heritage proudly. Visitors often notice its sweeping bridges, which have connected the city’s shipyards, coal refineries and factories for over a century. The medieval Newcastle Castle gives the town its name, while historic districts like Grey Street showcase some of the finest Georgian architecture in the UK. The city also lives and breathes football, with St James’s Park, the home of Newcastle United, situated in the heart of the city.

Newcastle’s scenic Quayside is great for riverside walks and evenings out, while the city’s creative hub in the Ouseburn Valley houses music venues, art studios and independent breweries. The award-winning beaches of Whitley Bay and Tynemouth are just a 20-minute drive away, while Northumberland’s spectacular heathland can be reached in under an hour, providing perfect escapes into nature.

The city has excellent transport links – the A1 provides a direct route south to London, while the A69 and A19 give access to the surrounding North East and coastal towns. Newcastle Central Station has regular trains to Edinburgh, York, Manchester, and London, and Newcastle International Airport is under 30 minutes from the city centre, and runs flights across the UK and Europe.

The city also benefits from the Tyne and Wear Metro light rail network providing frequent connections across the region and coast, alongside an extensive network of local bus services with major hubs at Haymarket and Eldon Square.

Newcastle is also excellent for families, with a range of schools across the area. Primary schools including Hadrian Primary and Westgate Hill have an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating, and secondary schools such as Gosforth Academy and Jesmond Park Academic have been rated ‘good’.
