Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough is a port town in the North East situated on the banks of the River Tees and around 25 miles south of Durham. With its proximity to both the North York Moors, coastal towns like Redcar and Hartlepool, and larger cities like Newcastle and Sunderland, the town is a versatile choice for commuters and families alike.

The town is home to a number of prominent cultural attractions. The Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA) serves as a hub for contemporary culture in the North, while the Dorman Museum showcases the town’s rapid growth during the Industrial Revolution. For those who prefer the outdoors, the 120-acre Albert Park offers a boating lake and Victorian fountains in the heart of the town, and Stewart Park providing extensive woodland walks and an animal visitor centre.

For shopping and leisure, The Cleveland Centre and Hillstreet Shopping Centre host national high-street brands, while Linthorpe Road, Baker Street and Bedford Street offer independent stores, coffee shops, microbreweries, and restaurants. For daily essentials, the town is well-served by major supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Lidl and Morrisons.

Middlesbrough is very well connected, making it a great choice for commuters. Middlesbrough Railway Station offers direct services to Manchester, Leeds and York, as well as a direct LNER service to London King’s Cross in approximately three hours. The A19 and A66 provide fast road access to Newcastle, Sunderland and Darlington. For local travel, the Tees Valley bus network offers frequent connections to outlying suburbs and nearby coastal towns like Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Teesside International Airport is also less than 15 miles away, offering a range of domestic and European flights.

Families have access to a variety of well-regarded schools. Primary options such as Linthorpe Community Primary hold ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted ratings, while Kader Academy and Marton Manor Primary are also highly regarded. For secondary education, Macmillan Academy and Lift Unity City Academy both have ‘Good’ Ofsted ratings, with further education provided by Middlesbrough College.
